Office Building, Shoham
Commissioned by the Traistman Group, we designed an office building in the new business district located in the entrance of Shoham. The project was designed on two lots that were combined into one, with a building comprising of two wings and a connecting section set back from the street. The glazed façade of the ground floor acts as a transparent and light foundation, while the four office levels rises above it. The building design includes an option for an additional floor, set back from the façade below. Two underground levels occupy 300 parking spaces.
The design approach for a commercial office building differs from that of a public office building, mainly in the requirement to utilize its lot area for maximum built areas, which materialize in deep floors in which the building’s cores are distant from the façade. We tried to balance between this requirement and the importance we see in relating to the project’s surrounding environment and the convenience of the users. With this in mind, we created the two-wing scheme that delimits the entrance square creating a public space open to pedestrians – tenants and visitors to the building. The ground floor intends to occupy accompanying retail functions to the offices such as banks, clinics, coffee shops and restaurants. Thus, the entrance square serves the needs of the building’s tenants and visitors, makes the space pleasant and adds a value of leisure to the commercial office spaces, while at the same time becoming a regional-urban attraction.
The client requirement for the connection of the building to the rural surrounding expressed through a wood-like façade cladded with HPL core panels. In contrast to that, the two side wings are cladded with granite and glazed screens, materials that relates to the formal character of an office building. We created a vegetative roof over the north side of the building facing the residential neighborhood, in addition rooftop vegetation overlooking the main entrance at the south side. The plan of the business district created a public park along the banks of Beit Ariff dry stream north of the building, and with the additional gardening around it the building “planted” in green surroundings.
